SOLD: Fake News Media Giants Take Over Already Non-Local St. Augustine Record

August 9, 2017

The Record reported today that, as part of a "Strategic restructuring" to focus its business on lifestyle publications, property development and new business, Morris Communications Co. announced today that it has signed an agreement to sell the assets of Morris Publishing Group, including the St. Augustine Record, to GateHouse Media.

“The St. Augustine Record will continue to deliver high quality journalism, trusted local stories and the stories behind the story to our readers and online family,” said Tony Bernados, president and publisher of the Record, who was apparently completely unaware that's not what they deliver at all.

GateHouse Media is a division of New Media Investment Group, a publicly traded company (NEWM) on the New York Stock Exchange. It is one of the largest newspaper companies in the country, owning more than 130 daily newspapers and more than 500 non-daily publications across the United States.
