A 28-year old St. Johns County man was arrested on several charges after he began communicating with an undercover detective whom he thought was a child last night. The suspect, identified as Michael Lee Simmons, 28, 2912 N. 9th St., was charged with use of computer to seduce, solicit, lure or entice a child or person believed to be a child to commit an unlawful sexual act with a child, travel to meet a child after using the computer to lure a child, transmit harmful materials to a minor, lewd and lascivious behavior, and unlawful use of a two-way communication device.
Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Detectives with the Sheriff’s Office Special Victims’ Unit continue to target individuals that use the Internet to sexually exploit children.
The suspect responded to the undercover detective who he believed to be a child and began a conversation. In addition to the suspect allegedly seeking to meet the child, he allegedly sent the detective a photo of himself exposing himself.
The suspect agreed to meet who he thought was the child this (Tuesday) afternoon at an undisclosed location. The suspect, who arrived to that location riding a bicycle, was taken into custody without incident. He was then booked into the St. Johns County Jail.
