MONEY: City Official Accused Of Trying To Scam FEMA
Planning and Zoning Board Vice-Chair, Deltra Long has been indicted for theft of government funds and false claims over FEMA money requested for Hurricane Matthew.
Long was investigated by a Jacksonville branch of the FBI, and is being accused of requesting federal funds of over $10,000 in order to repair a damaged rental property that she owns. The issue is that FEMA funds for disaster relief are limited to the primary residence of a homeowner who is living at the premises at the time of the disaster.
Long turned herself in at U.S District Court in Jacksonville on Friday and was released on an unsecured $5,000 appearance bond. Her arraignment is set for 3 p.m. Wednesday at U.S. District Court in Jacksonville.
If she is convicted, Long could see up to five years for the theft count, and up to 10 years on false claims.
