TOURIST TAX: Commissioners to Meet on How Tourist Money should Be Spent
St. Augustine and St. Johns County commissioners will hold a joint meeting this Wednesday morning at the county auditorium.
The meeting begins at 9 a.m. at the St. Johns County auditorium on San Sebastian View off U.S. 1 North. The focus will be the bed tax and how the city might use bed tax revenue for city infrastructure projects.
State law recently changed to allow broader uses of bed tax dollars for infrastructure projects. Bed Tax dollars weren't required to be put back into the city at all before this.
The city has proposed using bed tax dollars to buy shuttles and land for shuttle parking, to add public restrooms in the historic district and to add solar-powered compacting trash cans in the city.
