SJSO - ATTEMPTED HOMICIDE: Earlier today, deputies responded to a residence in St. Augustine Shores, where a vehicle had crashed into a home, causing significant damage. Once on scene, deputies discovered that the driver had been in a former relationship with the homeowner and that the incident was intentional. The investigation revealed that the homewowner, had another individual with her at the residence and the suspect seemingly did not approve.
At the time of the incident, the suspect, who has been identified as Darrin Dewayne Touchton, 58, saw the male subject in the yard with another friend and accelerated the Nissan Maxima towards the two in an attempt to kill the individual. The two men in the yard maneuvered to avoid the car, which seemingly missed the men by approximately a foot, before crashing through the house.
During the investigation it was discovered Touchton had previously made statements he would kill the subject by striking him with his vehicle. Only minor injuries were sustained by the targeted victims, however, the suspect was taken to an area hospital due to an unrelated condition, where he remains tonight under guard.
Touchton is currently charged with Attempted Homicide, 3 Counts of Aggravated Assault and Driving on Suspended Driver's License (No suspect photo is available due to the subject not yet being booked into the jail).
