SJC Poly-Drug Task Force - "The St Johns County Commissioner's Office will be meeting on the 2nd of April, 2019 to discuss the banning of a legal, yet dangerous drug known as Kratom.
Kratom is a plant indigenous to Southeast Asia, the Philippines and New Guinea and has recently seen a surge in use within the United States. FDA Commissioner Scott Gottlieb, M.D. believes Kratom is being marketed to individuals with opioid and alcohol use disorders as a means to achieving sobriety.
The FDA at large believes this may delay these individuals from seeking legitimate substance use treatment and subsequently increase their chances of drug overdose. The FDA's concerns prompted the St Johns County Polydrug Task Force to request the St Johns County Commissioner's Office to draft a local ordinance that would prohibit the sale, possession, use, manufacture, distribution and cultivation of Kratom."
Supporters of the substance say there is no high, there are no side effects, and that it is in fact a legitimate way to treat opioid addiction, without being put on and endless cycle of expensive pharmaceuticals that are just as addicting as the substances they're trying to kick.
The meeting is a public county commission meeting. I would suggest attending.
