Homicide At Local Homeless Camp
SAPD - Homicide occurred at a homeless camp (behind 32 Louise St.) The suspect is in custody.
On April 21, 2019 at approximately 8:01 p.m., officers responded to the wooded area behind 32 Louise St. in reference to an assault. Upon arrival, the officers discovered a white male unconscious at a campsite. According to the witnesses, the victim, w/m Will Alexander Burrell, came to stay at their campsite after having been involved in a physical altercation with the defendant, w/m Jeremy Daniel Davis.
According to the witnesses, the victim and the defendant had been sharing a campsite up until an altercation ensued over their camp area being dirty. The witnesses stated the defendant later snuck over to their camp area where the victim was now staying and proceeded to punch and kick the victim until he became unconscious. Officers observed moderate bleeding and swelling on the victim’s face.
The victim was transported out of the wooded area and life-flighted to Jacksonville Memorial Hospital. Subsequently, at approximately 5:59 p.m. on April 22, 2019, hospital staff informed us the victim had succumbed to the injuries sustained by the defendant.
The defendant is in custody at the St. Johns County Jail and charged with 2nd degree Homicide.
