SJSO - UPDATE:Your SJSO responded to nearly 4000 calls for service last week, and this was “one” that drew a little attention on Memorial Day.
Earlier this month, we posted two incidents; the first was of a shooting into an occupied residence and later a suspect who was seen openly brandishing a handgun in an apartment complex within the same community, but some distance away.
Major Crimes Detectives were able to identify the suspect in the video and after running a background, learned the individual was wanted out of Georgia for firearms violations. Not knowing where, or in what state the suspect may be, the United States Marshal Service began assisting in the search for the man. Yesterday, USMS personnel along with local law enforcement spotted the subject along St. Augustine Beach, where the suspect immediately fled on foot inside a nearby hotel. Numerous law enforcement officers converged on the area and quickly apprehended the man based on the warrants out of Georgia.
Local detectives interviewed the suspect, identified as De’mon Qumaine Lawson, 26, of Savannah Georgia, regarding the firearm incident. Currently, detectives are filing Florida charges for Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. The shooting investigation is still active and ongoing. We will advise further, as it becomes available for release.
