HARDWICK: 'I Am Open To Body Cameras, Absolutely... Budget Not An Excuse'
"I am open to body cameras, absolutely, we have to change with the times" said St. Johns County Sheriff's candidate and current Beach Police Chief Robert Hardwick, when asked about body cameras in St. Johns County. This at the site of Tuesday's planned debate, which was canceled by his opponent the day-of.
The debate site parking lot served as a good opportunity for Chief Hardwick to dispel some of the rumors and misinformation going around in troll groups online (made to look like local news or political groups).
Hardwick has a long history with St. Augustine beach as their Chief for the last 7 years, of responding to the needs of his community.
"If my community asks for it, I'll put body cams on my officers tomorrow," said Hardwick in an interview with me earlier this year in a 'Rob's Rountable' discussion.
"I'm not going to give you expense as an excuse... I am never going to say 'no' to body cameras," said Hardwick at the site of the canceled debate, this as the City of St. Augustine Police (Who have worked closely with the beach Chief over the years) are looking at implementing the cameras in their area as well.
(in a style that is eerily familiar to me... Pretty sure many people know who Mark D actually is...).
Strickland has canceled our debate, which was scheduled for this Thursday, and is said to have canceled his debate with a local radio station later in the month as well.
While Strickland was not there in person, lucky, thanks to The 904 Now, he was still able to watch from the comfort of home!
