[St. Augustine Record] A St. Augustine man performed sex acts on an 8-year-old girl and left her 10-year-old brother sleeping alone in his car for hours, according to a St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office report.
Now the man faces felony child endangerment and molestation charges.
George Dengler III, 33, was arrested early Wednesday morning. Deputies charged him with child neglect and lewd and lascivious behavior on a minor.
Dengler remained jailed Thursday on $105,000 bail, booking records show.
According to an arrest report, the underage victims visited Dengler’s home from July 31 to Tuesday. When they returned home, the male victim told his mother that Dengler touched the 8-year-old girl while she was asleep in his bed.
The girl confirmed that allegation, telling deputies Dengler toucher her “private parts” under her clothing on several occasions during their five-day stay at his home. The girl also described sex acts she said he performed on her and said he told her he loved her while inappropriately touching her, the report stated.
Meanwhile, the 10-year-old boy told deputies he accompanied Dengler on some food delivery runs Monday and he fell asleep in the suspect’s car. The boy claimed Dengler parked the vehicle a parking lot near his home around 10 p.m. and left him alone inside. He told deputies he woke up in the car around 1 a.m. Tuesday and Dengler’s daughter let him in the house.
During a controlled call Tuesday, Dengler admitted to the victims’ mother that he molested the little girl, according to the report. He, however, denied the allegations when investigators questioned him.
But deputies noted he made several incriminating statements, suggesting the girl had a crush on him and kissed him on multiple occasions and had made “seductive” gestures toward him. He admitted that he fell asleep and left the boy in his vehicle for about an hour but told deputies he planned on retrieving the child, reports stated.
