Lincolnville Road To Be Renamed In Honor Of 'Miss Carrie'

A street in St. Augustine is getting a new name.

On Saturday, a ceremony will take place to unveil the new name of Bravo Street in Lincolnville.

City officials say the street will be renamed Carrie Johnson Way, in honor of Miss Carrie Johnson, a St. Augustine native known as “the Voice of Lincolnville.”

“Miss Carrie, as she was referred to all who knew her, made it her life mission to make sure people knew they were loved and she accomplished this through her many volunteer activities,” the City of St. Augustine said.

Johnson also organized an annual Christmas Caroling Galore that began in 1995. She began The Miss Carrie Foundation for Homeless Students, and helped establish the Lincolnville 150th anniversary celebration.

She served as the vice president of the Fort Mose Historical Society and helped found the Anniversary to Commemorate the Civil Rights Demonstrations (ACCORD) organization.

An exhibit in her honor currently exists at the Lincolnville Museum.

The renaming ceremony will take place at the corner of Bravo and Weeden streets on Saturday, Feb. 20 at 12 p.m. The community is welcome to attend.

St. Augustine Mayor Tracy Upchurch and Johnson’s family and friends will give remarks.
