SAPD Officer Saves Man From Drowning

On 02/15/2021 at 1900 hrs the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office received a call in reference to a subject who possibly had a seizure while operating his motorized wheelchair. The caller advised the subject drove his wheelchair into a pond behind the Gate gas station off Mizell Rd and had fallen out of the wheelchair into the water. Ofc. Argitis was on a traffic stop on Anastasia Blvd when he heard the call come out while scanning the SJSO channels. Ofc. Argitis quickly ended his traffic stop and responded to Mizell Rd. Ofc. Argitis was the first on scene and was able to locate the subject in the pond face down and pull him out onto dry land. Once on dry land the subject began coughing and vomiting up water. Fire Rescue arrived and determined he did have a seizure and was transported to Flagler Hospital.

If not for the quick actions taken by Ofc. Argitis the subject would have drowned. Ofc. Argitis also retrieved the wheelchair and his belongings from the water and was able to push the wheelchair back to the camp where the subject lives. The subject was released from the hospital the following day.
